Hi there again guys! I would like to introduced to you all "Vibes from the Islands 2". As you might have recalled I have posted up Vibes from the Islands at the beginning of this year with a couple of songs. THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
He is a very much late bloomer in the local
music scene. But Steven Seti (aka Slimy Bwoy) has already stamp his mark in the
music industry, capturing a big following since he burst onto the airwaves in
the past month.
No one really expected the 28 year old, who
hails from Sikai’ana in the Malaita Outer Islands, to venture, explore and
become a household name in such a very short time.
Seti linked up with friends from the Ronlus
band who then introduced him to well-known local producer of Shefram Studios,
Baka Solomon. “We talked about writing a song and they all liked the idea and
suggested that I start off with a song in my local dialect. We all started
composing a song- a combination of English, Pidgin and Sikai’ana dialects, which
we thought would suit local music lovers both in Honiara, the provinces and
also overseas”.
Starting off with the crew from Shefram, Seti
began recording the song “Hale Mai” but somewhere in between found a missing
gap that still needed to be filled. He was in for a shock of his life when out
of the blue, Evan Rush from the popular band – DMP came into the studio and
agreed to offer his talents to fill in the missing gap. “I was totally blown
away when Evan walked into the studio. I could not believe it. It was like a
dream come true seeing such a well-known, established artist come in and take
part in my song”.
“Hale Mai” is now slowly making its way up to
the top local hits in the country with fans favoring its dance beat vibes and
especially the local dialect which has already been made popular by another
local Sikai’ana artist in Vania.

The lyrics of the song has a good flow to it and was very strong in terms of what these artists are trying to put across to its listeners out there. An informative and educational song. What these artists have done was really exceptional, they decided to do one of the most classic songs of our time - Forever Young; and blend in the beats from the Islands into it while at the same time still keeping the original rhythm to it. Also, they have incorporated their own lyrics into it which makes it much more interesting to listen to, something more up to date with the latest music trend in Solomon Islands this days. The vocals of this artists are so strong and clear that it makes it really easy for fans to sing along to it. (lyrics have also been included). Overall, a very good remake of a classic song. A great sound indeed from some of the finest and talented artist coming from the Western provincial township of Gizo. The slow catchy beat at the beginning of the song was really impressive and a good choice of beat. The lyrics of the song, which is a mixture of English, pidjin and Roviana dialect made the song very popular indeed among the younger peers since it was all about romance. This is one of the latest track to come out from the Honeymoon Production Studio, a new recording studio in Honiara. Some of the previous tracks being released by Honeymoon records are "Stay on my Hustle by B-Bow and "Herbsman" by Big Maui Waui and Kaotic Duke just to name a few.
This track titled "Drop" features some of the upcoming hiphop artists in Solomon Islands such as J Budds and B-Bow. Its good to see artists begining to tap into other genres as well such as hiphop, and RnB etc. Looking forward for more tracks being released under this Production Studio. This is a great song and performance indeed.The arrangement and the melody of the song is really strong and exciting to listen to. The singer has a really strong and clear vocal tone and the lyrics is very informative and educational with some catchy phrases included as well ! !
The inclusion of the panpipe tune with the simple beats connected so well that it has a good flow to it. Also the use of different dialects, pidgin english and english in the lyrics was one of the main highlights. Overall the song is very distinctive and have originality.
