TWO VOICE Off 2011 nominees will be part of the opening the Festival of Pacific Arts in
ReplyDeleteHoniara July 1st. The two artists, former JAG and Too Good Boys lead singer Brian
Maesulia and Solo Icon judge David Auna or properly stage named Davu, are young
aspiring musicians who are well known among youths and have been in the local
music scene for some time. Jaf and Davu will perform at the opening of the much-anticipated ceremony and are
both currently working on a video clip for the festival theme song. Both artists held the top two positions in last year’s Voice Off music competition – Jag,
1st prize while Davu settled on 2nd prize.
Meanwhile, in ongoing recognition of charity and community services, Voice Off has
extended its support to an international charity drive for a young child diagnosed
with cancer, Anijah Brown, who is a 5 year old from Richmond, Virginia in the States.
She lost both of her kidneys and diagnosed with cancer. She was recommended to do surgery but due to her age, the surgery will be very
expensive for her. In efforts to have enough money for Anijah, her mother started using online social
mediums, Twitter and Facebook, asking for support and from there. This was brought to the attention of the DbG family global who have collectively
decided to help raise money for young Anijah.
The international fundraising drive is to help raise money for Anijah Brown and the
event is organized by the DbG Squad and supported by Fly High Entertainment, MTM
Music Group, Maybach Latino, S. Allen Promotions and 12 News TV and DavidbGoliath
Records. In his contribution, Brian has recorded his cover of Billy Preston’s “You are so
beautiful” which is going to be played at the event.
The fundraiser will take place on 14th July in Richmond, Virginia and DbG Records is
appealing online for support to help Anijah get her surgery.
THE GENERAL public in Honiara last night staged a second fundraiser to raise money for the victims of Japan affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Fundraising committee spokesman told Island Sun yesterday that despite our financial crisis they want to raise funds which will be handed over to the Japanese Government as part of our help to the people of Japan. The earthquake and tsunami which hit Japan costs many lives and billions of dollars to rebuild. With this in mind the JICA Nihon Alumni Association and Ship for World Youth Alumni Association Solomon Islands (SWYAASI) along with Big Bang Hits have organized themselves and are planning a series of fundraisings to raise money to help the Japanese people who have been affected by the recent natural disaster in their country. “Our country has received endless help from the Japanese people and as such it is only proper that we as Solomon Islanders have to give something back. “As such I call on all people who have a hearth for the Japanese people to come out and show their appreciation for what Japan has done for us by getting involved with the fundraising to help the Japanese tsunami and earthquake victims,” said organizer spokesperson. Raffle tickets sold were drawn last night with many prizes won by participants. The fundraising featured single artists like Brian Maesulia, Deskem, Sizzy and the ever popular Paeva and Black Black.
ReplyDeleteYOUNG PEOPLE competing in the popular Voice Off
ReplyDeleteSolomon singing competition has helped young
people of the Christian Care Centre (CCC) of the
Sisters of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM)
through donation. The donation was an initiative put together by the
competition’s contestants, judges and organizers to
give back to charity. Speaking to at the handover of items to the Centre’s
representatives, Events First Director and Music
Promoter, William Sanga said the move to put into
charity works is all part of the Voice Off package to
help build a positive image for musicians in the
country with the music industry being filled with young people. Mr. Sanga said Events First comes with the intention
to uplift and empower young people to anticipate
in such activities which he added will also be
educational and at the same time it helps to
promote them as artists. “The public perception is always very low when it
comes to our musicians. Voice Off is an avenue that hopes to shift the public
mindset and pull in more genuine support from
private sectors and the government to help build
and promote our local music industry,” he said. He added that the art of singing can heal, comfort
and reflects the caring side of a person. Speaking after the handover, the former lead
vocalist of JAG, and a Voice Off contestant, Brian
Maesulia said music is all about sharing. “I have always been hired as a musician to do
charity works through entertainment at functions. But now I am directly involved “I am very appreciative of such generosity from a
very small and young team because I never
expected a group like this to respond this way and
it’s very moving”, Coordinator of Christian Care
Centre, Sister Doreen Awaiasi expressed. Sister Doreen said music unites hearts when it
comes to giving especially from young people, “it
touches our hearts and young people housed by
the Care Centre in such a deep way”.
